Thoughts…
Observations:
Drought. Drought dries up and kills trees, the soil, etc.
Bushfires. Burns off trees killed by drought.
Storms. Knock over those trees not burnt and blows/washes away soil dried out by drought.
Floods. Washes away trees knocked over by storms, and washes out ash, soot, soil from above.
All these things are happening in and around Victoria now.
Conclusion:
Mother Nature is defragging.
