Michael Dell, founder of Dell, funny that, was spotted carrying a “Mini Inspiron” – a new 9 inch model notebook.
Dell spokesperson, Anne Camden said
“Hats off to Brian Lam of Gizmodo as he seems to have caught Michael roaming the halls between sessions and saw he was carrying something our Ideastorm contributors will recognize,”
It’s suggested that it’s based on Intel’s Atom processor.
Given that Dell already has pretty low prices for pretty decent hardware, I can only hope that it will compete directly with the Eee-style notebooks. Given that Dell already sell computers with Ubuntu on them, this would be a perfect way to get it out there.

Firefox is going for a world record for most software downloaded in 24 hours when Firefox 3 is released. There’s no official launch date yet, what with that pesky RC2 shoving in, but keep checking back at the site above, pledge your download, and go for it!
Google News Alerts can now be digested as an RSS feed. This is easier than a bunch of emails coming in, I think. It helps to keep it all in one place.
It would seem as well that the standard syntax for the alert feed is as follows:
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=search+term&ie=UTF-8&output=rss
I’ve just replaced the SEARCH+TERM bit (a plus is needed for spaces) with various values and added that as a feed to google reader. Works great.
Kotaku has a mini-review of a preview of Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X.
Now, I’m a bit of a fan of Tom Clancy’s games, starting from the original Rainbow Six, where I would happily set paths, go-codes and crossover cover sniping for the teams, and just let the computer controlled characters do all the work. I really go into the tactical side.
I am also a huuuge fan of flight sim games. My favourite games on the Commodore64 was F-14 Tomcat. I played through the campaign on that to retirement with about every medal.
So now there’s going to be a Tom Clancy flight sim. I’m going to need a personal moment here…..
… OK I’m done.
Anyway, it looks awesome, and hopefully they fix up some of the camera controls as mentioned in the article.
There is also going to be Tom Clancy’s Endwar, a RTS in the TC universe, which apparently supports voice commands. That would be quite nifty…
On Salon.com was an article about how Rock Band saved a marriage.
I love stories like this, and game developers should pay attention.
When I buy a game, unless it’s something I’ve been really hanging out for, I always check to see that it is a two player, split screen, co-op game. Always. If it’s not, I don’t buy it. End of story. Why?
Because there’s nothing better than sitting down and playing a co-op game with my wife. Adversarial is a no-go. I don’t have as much fun hunting her as I do hunting *with* her. It’s not just shooting games either. LEGO Star Wars is a favourite, and very soon LEGO Indiana Jones will be too.
The game companies need to cater not just for people who want to play online, but also people who want to play together while sitting together.
And if there are any wives, or husbands for that matter, reading this, wondering what to do about their significant other playing too many games, the answer is easy. Play with them! Find something you’ll both enjoy, lift your skill level, and play!
I cheer when my wife makes an achievement, drink a toast when her gamerscore rises. It’s awesome! Sure, there are some games where she runs along behind me like a girly girl, but it’s cool to know she’s got my back in the virtual world as well, even if it is pink armour :)
It’s been a hectic couple of weeks for me. I’m really trying to keep this blog going, and post far more regularly, and far more interesting…ly, and I feel I’m coming coming close to failing. I’m getting home from my day job quite tired… not physically because I sit a lot, but mentally. I deal with customers who should know better about the types of data they submit, and getting my head around what they want and trying to find the small words to explain why they can’t have it… ugh.
Anyway. most days it’s really hard to sit down, flick through my RSS feeds and find in me to be creative about what I’m reading, when all I want to do is shoot stuff on the Xbox, or watch a movie.
I want have to want to form the habit of posting something every day.
Feedburner tells me there’s 11 subscribers to the feed here, and I got a lot of hits with the 10 Reasons Why I Switched To Ubuntu post, but I’m just curious how many people stayed around.
I’d appreciate a shout in the comments, just to say Hi.
Now on with sifting the Google Reader starred flags… More posts to follow…
