I figured it would work out this way, but with Vodafone’s announcement so prominent, it looked like it would just be them.
This is good. A 3G iPhone (as opposed to NextG, for just Telstra) means there will be some competition going around. Optus also tend to have good data plans, so this is promising, too.
Telstra, I think, missed the whole 3G thing and went to their NextG service, which is on a different bandwidth, but I guess their network supports a fallback frequency, or Apple will build a dual band HDSPA version for us.
There’s also a rumor that Apple will sell the iPhone directly and unlocked, allowing users to pick the best plan. Maybe that also means there will be prepaid access plans for it.
