Spousal Gaming

On Salon.com was an article about how Rock Band saved a marriage.

I love stories like this, and game developers should pay attention.

When I buy a game, unless it’s something I’ve been really hanging out for, I always check to see that it is a two player, split screen, co-op game. Always. If it’s not, I don’t buy it. End of story. Why?
Because there’s nothing better than sitting down and playing a co-op game with my wife. Adversarial is a no-go. I don’t have as much fun hunting her as I do hunting *with* her. It’s not just shooting games either. LEGO Star Wars is a favourite, and very soon LEGO Indiana Jones will be too.

The game companies need to cater not just for people who want to play online, but also people who want to play together while sitting together.

And if there are any wives, or husbands for that matter, reading this, wondering what to do about their significant other playing too many games, the answer is easy. Play with them! Find something you’ll both enjoy, lift your skill level, and play!

I cheer when my wife makes an achievement, drink a toast when her gamerscore rises. It’s awesome! Sure, there are some games where she runs along behind me like a girly girl, but it’s cool to know she’s got my back in the virtual world as well, even if it is pink armour :)
