Wordpress E-commerce Plugin

I’m helping out a friend with the construction of her website. Wordpress based was the way to go, easy to setup and maintain.
The site, however, is primarily to sell things that she hand makes, so a shopping cart was needed.
A quick Google came up with this: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-e-commerce/
This is a fantastic little plugin that builds a shopping cart, product management, categories, tags, etc for your online shop, takes the order details and bumps it over to PayPal to handle payments, either with a PayPal account or credit card.
It’s by a New Zealand mob. The version I used was the free version, which is quite adequate for a small e-commerce site, but for a fee, you can add extension to the plugin for various ways to change the presentation, or add other payment gateways to your cart.
It’s very nice as-is and it damn easy to use. It even comes with widgets for wordpress to throw into your sidebar for product lists, cart contents, etc etc.

Ubuntu 8.04 64 Bit on a Dell XPS M1530

A week ago I took delivery of a shiny new Dell XPS M1530 Laptop. Specs:
Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5Ghz
4Gb RAM
15.4″ Ultrasharp screen
256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
64Gb SSD (Solid State Drive)
Slot load DVD burner
Fingerprint reader
Intel Wireless-N
Bluetooth
SD Card reader
other stuff now considered standard.

It came with Vista Home Premium, which I looked at, considered because it supports the TV card that also came with the system, then decided I don’t watch TV much anyway cos I download stuff, so wiped my 64Gb of solid state-ness and whacked on Ubuntu Hardy 64 Bit.

This will cover what I had to do, and then what I did for the sake of configurating.
